My First Souvenir

In Greek mythology, Nike (Greek: Νίκη, "Victory", pronounced [níːkɛː]) was a goddess who personified victory throughout the ages of the ancient Greek culture. She is known as the Winged Goddess of Victory.

I have been in Europe since the end of October and in my effort to lose it all I have not bought any souvenirs. The occasional post card that has been it, but when I was in Greece a few weeks back I picked up my first little statue, the Athena Nike has been on of my favorites since I was a kid, when I read up about Greek mythology, Latin in High School( the Late great Ms. Love) and of course reading the Odyssey and my first pair of Nikes in the late 70's. The statue cost about 7 bucks, now is the time to go to Greece, (The EU is not happy with Greece, so prices have been slash to generate revenue) so Marla picked up a little something too.

The great masters worked off plaster replicas in their training and when I was in Florence to see the David I came across a room full of practice pieces. the students had to work on them at all times of the day to work on value.

Greece and Torso

I just in Greece a few days ago and i saw these interesting friezes laying in ruins near the Temple of Hephastus, they were just lying on the ground. To think they have been there for about 2500 years weathered by 2500 winters and countless storms and wars. I which it could talk, what it saw and the craftmenship.

DRAWING IN GREECE

The Acropolis is quite a thing to see it was on my bucket list, sometimes things are overrated but, this is not the case. I stood in awe of a edifice that has stood for 2500 years, it has been many things (church, mosque, armory) it even was bombed.

I did got to draw a bit during my 4 days in Greece, drawing people I see, and drawing on notebook paper, draw on whatever I have available. I still can't show a lot of what I am drawing but here is some of my stuff.

That New IdeaSome more drawing of people around me.

There are times that I draw the folks I see around me. and there are times I have to look around for faces in artwork I find interesting, These are a few of both. Mostly working with pencil and charcoal I am working with my Value.
I have a personal project I am working on, something big I can't share right now. but I have been drawing a lot for that project so I can't show you those scribbles.
What is a New Idea? what do I do or someone else does to keep hold of an idea? to research, to keep an idea fresh? The things going on in my head has been exhausting not that what I am doing is earth shattering or life changing. Well, maybe my life could change, Lord willing. I pray that what I create matters or should I? The selfishness of the world tells me I should do this for me, that if I don't get it out It will forever mark my Pscyche ( I have been reading a lot artist Bio's). I am wrestling with this, I am Fortunate I am in this situation, I have the time to think this out. I don't want to waste this time in my life, i have to believe this is my great Opportunity.

A Bunch of stuff that has Been Stacking Up

I want to apologize up front on my lack of posting, I have not have my Mac working, but a new day has dawned. I have a new PowerBook, WooHoo so I now will have more pics.

Some of the following have been of my travels and and studying on line various artists such as Andrew Wyeth. I am excited to be in Malmo Sweden right now, it is cold here so I will be indoors touching up some of my earlier stuff.

It was nice to see many friends in the US, and I like how some folks asking me about what was up with my lack of post. I also want to thank my girl Sharayah for the Facebook encouragment.

These are views from on the Duomo in Florence Italy Top is the Left, Bottom is right.

Helga study Andrew Wyeth his stuff is remarkable, if you have never seen it Google him (use some adult eyes) what I think is so cool he is a tempra and water color guy it is hard to get the realism with those tools. This about 7 Hours with pencil.

Old guy from a painting I can't remember, sorry.

Also a Florence drawing I sat amazed at Micheangelo's David, For one the it is about 18 feet tall. The other thing sitting there you think he is getting tired standing there and he going to walk away kick Goliath's Butt. The vien of the marble looks as if should be veins of his skin especially on his hands and feet.

Untitled for now
