Michelangelo.....First Painting

I went to the Kimbell Art Museum on friday with Marla, this was great day. But first we started with lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen this is a great place order something different every time bbq chicken today. I digress, the Kimbell ( www.kimbellart.org) is a premium museum and I been to a few. Their new Exhibition Michelangelo's First Painting, The Torment of Saint Anthony showcases the only Michelangelo painting outside of Italy.

Here is the information
Alan Shestack; Fifteenth century Engravings of Northern Europe; no.37, 1967, National Gallery of Art, Washington

The Torment of Saint Anthony is the earliest known painting by Michelangelo, painted after an engraving by Martin Schongauer when he was only 12 or 13 years old. It is currently in the permanent collection of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. It shows the common medieval subject, included in the Golden Legend and other sources, of Saint Anthony being assailed in the desert by demons, whose temptations he resisted; the Temptation of St Anthony (or "Trial") is the more common name of the subject. But this composition shows a later episode where St Anthony, normally flown about the desert supported by angels, was ambushed in mid-air by devils

There is a lot more stuff from the from the renaissance Raphael, Carrvaggio, Donatello etc. check it out. Michelangelo went to the fish market to study scales of the fish and then used it in his painting. I wanted to change it up myself so I made up creatures that were demon-like from video games modern. I worked in pencil and ink. So I put Schongauer, Michelangelo, and mine.
