Some Drawing Fun

Atomic Robo Is a Graphic novel I have been reading. I have a few drawings here. Atomic Robo is a robot possessing "automatic intelligence", created by Nikola Tesla in 1923. He is a core member of Tesladyne Industries, "a thinktank dedicated to exploring the fringes of scientific inquiry", whose Action Scientists often respond to paranormal and supernatural emergencies. Robo has a developed sense of humor, a basic Smart-ass and makes numerous wise cracks at his foes' expense. In the past, he has secretly worked with theUnited States government as well as NASA.

More Work in Progress

Unlike drawing, painting is sometimes, not all... time/labor intensive , so it may not look like a much time has gone by but it has. The work on my  "Satchel" Paige from my last post to my new post is about 15 extra hours.

Still Working on this

Still Working on this
My David pieces (20 hours) is part of a bigger idea, where I want to have 5-7 parts where I get diverse views of the statue of David after all it is a 360 degrees. What would be the front?  The variant images will be place at different heights and may have different size canvasses. Definite work in progress.

These are part of a series, my painted versions of the great pieces of Art I have seen. I like giving alternative perspectives to old works.

This a variant Fire Red Headed goddess Venus by Sandro Botticelli, the layers of hair I spent most of my time, I worked about 13 hours on this.

I will be making Post Card printed versions of most any piece I have done, so if anyone is interested email me.

DR Sketchy

Dr Sketchy is a Art class, but without the class. They meet once a month usually in a bar somewhere in Dallas and charge 10 bucks, but they have chapters all over the world. This was my first time for me at this event there were about 20 or so artist, it starts off one minute sketches, two minute, then five, ten, then 3 twenty minutes sessions. A model was brought in (Angela Ryan), with a Marie Antoinette persona. The theme was given, being October and Halloween looming, we were told to incorporate it in a drawing or two. Here are some of the sketches I did and I won a couple of prizes best incorporation of the Halloween theme, I had Marie Antoinette serving her head on a platter. And I won models choice where Angela picked a favorite, WOOHOO. I got a free session and a Moleskin sketchbook

Drink and Draw is a biweekly activity in Dallas at a place called The Flying Saucer. About a dozen artist just hang out and drink, eat and draw, There are some really interesting people the best drawing individual was not an artist by trade but an economic grad student name Luis. He used a pen of white out for his highlights, I am stealing that idea.

I went to The Castle Gallery which had many of the relics of 600 years of history of Milan, a lot of armor and weapons very unique hand made rifles. The craftsmanship of the etching is hard to describe on and almost impossible to photograph.

As I stay in Milan I realize how warm it gets outside, so the basic search for airconditioning or shade is constant. I have a great shaded area next to my hotel with an open Palazzo with large umbrellas. The space is new the complex is very new, there is a mall across the street, Milan is as modern as a city can get in Italy, unlike Florence, Rome, Pisa, Genova. The highway system is wide and clean, the bus and metro is not as wild and crazy as the others.

Here are few people I did see around the Plaza, mostly woman... they are the people who sit for a while and chat and Guys not so much.

Just a few more days in Milan then back to Germany for 10 days

Drawing in the streets and Galleries in Milan

I am in Milan for a few weeks, So my plan is to go to the streets of Milan and the Galleries and just draw what I see. I have learned that many of the Galleries are closed for the summer and August many just shut down and use the time revamp for new shows in September.

In Europe life slows down many go "holiday" most people get 4-6 weeks vacation a year, most of that time off is August. I think it is because it is HOT a large amount people have no air conditioning and live in cramped spaces so they leave. I did find a few galleries open but on Monday they open at 2:30pm or as they post 14.30, on a side not almost every country in Europe uses military time. Any way the late open times I only made one Gallery on monday. I did walk all over for about 3 hours stopping to find shade then sitting and drawing. Here are a few of the things I saw, the gallery was along Palazzo Reale di Milano The PianoTerra section this had a show with Carla Maria Maggi.

Here is a bit of info  I Googled  on her, It would have taken to long to translate the Italian in the brochure.
This exhibition highlights eighteen of Italian artist Carla Maria Maggi’s (1913–2004) most accomplished paintings from 1933 to 1940 and shows her art to be part of a movement in the 1920s in Milan that sought to bridge the legacy of impressionism and post-impressionism with more traditional modes of figure painting, landscape, and still life.

As I am winding down my time in Germany, I am putting in my time with Expressionism, it was birthed here. Expressionism emerged as an 'avant-garde movement' in poetry and painting before the First World War; in theWeimar years was being appreciated by a mass audience, having its popularity peak
in Berlin, during the 1920s.

Expressionism  Its typical trait is to present the world under an utterly subjective perspective, violently distorting it to obtain an emotional effect and vividly transmit personal moods and ideas.
